UNECE and SIC ICWC, within the framework of the Water, Energy, Land-use Nexus project in Central Asia, supported this high-level preparatory meeting. It was organised by the Central Asia Climate Fund in co-operation with the Government of Kazakhstan and other development partners in Aktau, Kazakhstan, to prepare for the 2026 Regional Ecological Summit.
The Meeting was attended by the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Erlan Nysanbayev. Chairman of the Committee on Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. Bakhodur Sheralizoda, Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Mr. Aziz Abdukhakimov and Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic, Ms. Asel Raimkulova.
It also convened representatives of regional organisations, UN agencies, and development partners. Participants actively discussed strategic initiatives that will be included in the final agenda of the upcoming Summit, including green tech innovations and climate adaptation solutions related to the Aral Sea. Particular attention was paid to water resources management, climate change adaptation, and promotion of a circular economy. The event also included an exhibition of green startups with the GCIP Kazakhstan Green Acceleration Program.
In conclusion of the Meeting, the parties reviewed the draft Concept and exhibition within the framework of the upcoming Summit and discussed other regional initiatives.
