Aid for Trade

Aid for Trade aims to help developing economies, including least developed countries, tackle trade-related obstacles, strengthen their capacity to trade and build the infrastructure they need to integrate into the international trading system. Aid for Trade is part of official development assistance (ODA). 

This dashboard provides data disaggregated by individual provider and recipient countries. Users can explore how flows have been distributed by region, income group, and sector on a gross cash flow basis. Data starts from the 2002-05 annual average, which corresponds to the baseline at the launch of the Aid for Trade initiative at the WTO Hong Kong Ministerial Conference in 2005.

How much support did individual beneficiaries receive in Aid for Trade, and how did it evolve over time? This chart showcases the evolution of Aid for Trade commitments and disbursements by recipient country. Data is also available by region and for non country-specific support. To account for differences in support provided, data is disaggregated by financing instrument (grants and concessional loans).

Aid for Trade encompasses all development assistance that helps developing economies tackle  obstacles and strengthen their capacity to integrate into the international trading system. The CRS, the key source for monitoring Aid for Trade flows, distinguishes four broad categories:

• economic infrastructure,

• productive capacity building,

• trade policy and regulations and

• trade-related adjustments.

This chart presents the evolution of the distribution of Aid for Trade flows across those categories. 

The four broad Aid for Trade categories can be subdivided into more granular sub-categories which correspond to sectors of activity. This chart provides a breakdown of Aid for Trade financing by sub-category and by beneficiary for the period 2022-23 (average disbursements and commitments). Understanding what types of activities were financed through Aid for Trade is important to assess the effectiveness of support provided and how it aligns with partner country priorities.

This information clarifies sources of finance for individual economies and whether that financing is concentrated or distributed across multiple providers. Data is disaggregated by instrument (grants vs loans).

Trade-related other official flows (OOFs) include non-concessional and low-concessional financing from official providers allocated to trade-related activities in developing countries. This chart presents the evolution of Trade-related OOF commitments and disbursements by recipient since 2006.
