In Tijuana the Secretary-General delivered remarks at the Tijuana Innovadora event and received a Distinguished Visiting Professor Award from the Centro de Enseñanza Técnica y Superior. In San Diego he delivered remarks at the Institute of the Americas where he also received the Global Leadership Award.
The Secretary-General held bilateral meetings with Federal Chancellor Christian Kern and several high-level Austrian officials.
The Secretary-General opened a seminar marking the 20th anniversary of Korea’s membership in the OECD. He also delivered a keynote speech at the Seoul Economic-Democratisation Forum and met with Korean President Geun-hye Park.
The Secretary-General launched the OECD-Indonesia Joint Work Programme for 2017-2018 and presented the 2016 Economic Survey of Indonesia and Open Government Review of Indonesia.
The Secretary-General delivered remarks at the UN Habitat III Conference high-level roundtable “Leave No One Behind: Urban Inclusion and Prosperity”. He also opened the joint OECD/Ford Foundation event on "Getting to Inclusive Growth in Cities” and delivered a keynote speech to launch the National Urban Policy Programme on "Implementing the New Urban Agenda”.
The Secretary-General opened the OECD Foro Perú 2016 alongside Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and attended the APEC Finance Ministers’ Meetings. While in Lima, Mr. Gurría also held discussions with the Peruvian authorities and presented a number of OECD reports on Peru.
The Secretary-General met with President Juan Manuel Santos to discuss the progress in Colombia’s process of accession to the OECD. Mr. Gurría also attended the 5th World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders and an OECD/Ford Foundation event on the Inclusive Growth in Cities initiative.
The Secretary-General presented the OECD Review of Mexico´s National Auditing System and signed agreements with the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) to start new projects on regulation, integrity and public procurement.
The Secretary-General attended the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group. He also delivered remarks at a number of other events including a keynote speech on the “The Integration of Migrants and Refugees: Challenges and Opportunities” at Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, and the launch of the Model G20 Program at American University.
The Secretary-General participated in the OECD Ministerial Meeting on Better Policies for Inclusive Growth and Economic Integration in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region and presented a number of OECD projects. He also held bilateral meetings with the President of Tunisia and other high-level officials.
