The report is part of the OECD Centre on Philanthropy’s research in emerging economies, including the People’s Republic of China (hereafter “China”), Colombia, Nigeria, India and South Africa. These studies aim to shed light on the contribution of domestic philanthropy to local development and offer recommendations for critical development issues.
The report was written under the guidance of Bathylle Missika, Head of the Inclusive Development and Partnership Division and Priscilla Boiardi, Team Lead of the OECD Network of Foundations Working for Development (netFWD) and Centre on Philanthropy at the OECD Development Centre. It was prepared by Alina Winter, Policy Analyst for the OECD Centre on Philanthropy, with support from Tommaso Larghetti and Rishika Banerjee. Ogulcan Ertunc from the OECD Development Co-operation Directorate developed a machine learning tool to classify project descriptions to sectors and SDG targets. Henri-Bernard Solignac-Lecomte, Delphine Grandrieux and Elizabeth Nash from the Development Communications team supported the design and provided editorial contributions.
The OECD Centre on Philanthropy would also like to thank Rodrigo Charvel, Fernando Nieto, Cristian Solórzano and Fernanda Somuano from El Colegio de México for their support with research and data collection, Natalia Caballero Salcido from the Azteca Foundation, Marilú Villalón and her team from CEMEFI, Sebastian Nieto Parra, José René Orozco and Laura Gutiérrez from the OECD Latin American and Caribbean team, Mario López Roldán and Rocío Medina from the OECD Centre for Latin America and the Caribbean for their support with the launch event, Clara Young for editing and all the organisations that shared data for the report.
