OECD Global Forum on Agriculture

The OECD Global Forum on Agriculture (GFA) is an annual platform of international dialogue on agricultural policy, bringing together policy makers, experts, farmers and other private sector actors to enable transformative solutions for sustainable agriculture and food systems.

Agricultural resilience and food security are increasingly shaped by a range of global risks, from geopolitical tensions and energy market volatility to trade disruptions and environmental pressures. Recent shocks have tested agricultural systems around the world, affecting farmers, input suppliers, food processors, traders and consumers alike. Yet these experiences have also demonstrated important strengths: markets have adapted, supply chains have adjusted, farmers have innovated, and governments have introduced measures to support food security and resilience.

The 2026 OECD Global Forum on Agriculture will bring together policymakers, stakeholders and experts from around the world to discuss how agricultural systems can better prepare for future disruptions while building on lessons from the past. Discussions will examine how farmers, businesses and governments have responded to recent shocks, what approaches have proven most effective, and how resilience can be strengthened without losing the benefits of open and interconnected markets.

Nitrogen fertilisers will serve as a valuable case study throughout the Forum. Essential for global food production and closely linked to energy, trade and environmental systems, fertilisers illustrate both the vulnerabilities and adaptive capacity of global agricultural markets. Drawing on recent experiences with fertilisers and beyond, participants will explore practical lessons on managing risks, improving efficiency, supporting innovation and designing policies that strengthen resilience over the short and long term.

GFA 2026 will explore the following themes

• Understanding current food security challenges, including the implications of recent geopolitical, economic and environmental disruptions.
• Strengthening farm-level resilience, exploring how farmers are adapting through innovation, improved nutrient management and risk-management strategies.
• Building resilient supply chains and markets, examining how businesses, transport networks and market actors have responded to recent shocks and where existing systems have performed well.
• Balancing short-term responses and long-term transformation, including how policymakers can help secure supplies and stabilise markets while advancing sustainability, innovation and productivity objectives.
• Learning from successful responses and international co-operation, identifying what farmers, businesses, governments and international organisations have done well during recent disruptions and how those experiences can inform future resilience strategies.
