Launch of Global Trends in Government Innovation 2026

This online event launches the 8th OECD Global Trends in Government Innovation report, showcasing how innovation is helping governments keep pace with a rapidly changing world.

Join us to explore cutting-edge practices across government, including efforts to build public AI capacity, innovations that bring government closer to people, experiments that are changing how governments learn, and tools that help policymakers act before problems arise.

The report draws on an analysis of more than 1,500 examples of innovation from 87 countries. The result is a snapshot of where the leading edge of public sector practice stands today and what it means for how governments can build new capacities to act, learn, and deliver.

This event will present four government innovation trends identified in the report, followed by a discussion with high-level speakers on how governments can make the most of the opportunities they present.

The event takes place in the context of the OECD's Government Unstuck agenda,  which recognises that rapid advances in technology, particularly artificial intelligence, and fast-evolving citizen expectations are shifting the boundaries of what governments are expected to do and raising the bar for how they do it. Yet, while demands on government are intensifying, many public institutions find themselves stuck – not for want of ambition or effort, but because the structures, processes and capabilities were built for a more stable and predictable environment.
