Latin America and the Caribbean has made important progress in expanding health coverage and improving population health. The region now faces a more demanding challenge: turning broader coverage into care that is effective, high-quality, equitable and financially sustainable. Health systems must respond to population ageing, chronic diseases and persistent health threats while facing workforce shortages, uneven infrastructure and digital capacity, and high out-of-pocket spending.
The third edition of Health at a Glance: Latin America and the Caribbean, jointly prepared by the OECD, the Inter-American Development Bank and the World Bank, provides a comparative assessment of health and health system performance across 33 countries. It brings together comparable indicators covering health status, determinants of health, health system resources and infrastructure, expenditure and financing, quality of care, the health workforce and ageing.
The launch webinar will present the report’s main findings and discuss its two thematic priorities: improving quality of care and reducing inequalities in health and healthcare. It will explore how countries can build on progress in coverage to make health systems more effective and equitable, strengthen financial protection and system capacity, and prepare for ageing and future health challenges.
