The policy seminar was co-organised by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) and Japan International Association for the Industry of Building and Housing (JIBH), with support from the Embassy of Japan in Thailand, JETRO Bangkok Office, Japanese Chamber of Commerce, Bangkok and JICA Thailand Office.
The seminar featured Dr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok and the first Governor from a non-OECD Asian country to join the OECD’s Champion Mayors for Inclusive Growth Initiative, highlighting Bangkok's experience in the development of sustainable, inclusive and smart cities.
The keynote speakers delved into the strategies employed by cities in Asia to promote sustainable buildings, lower carbon emissions, and foster inclusive growth. The speech was followed by panel discussions on “zero-carbon housing, buildings and cities” and “inclusive growth in smart cities” with participants coming from national and local governments, international organisations, and academia. In addition, a business session was organised by JIBH, showcasing practical technologies from leading Japanese companies aimed at making Bangkok a more sustainable and liveable city.
