General government spending refers to total expenditure by government on the provision of public goods and services and social protection.
It includes expenditures related to government functions such as education, health, defence, public order, and social benefits. Data are compiled in accordance with the classifications and principles of the 2008 System of National Accounts (SNA 2008) for all OECD countries.
The indicator is measured as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP).
