Dashboard on the State of cardiovascular health in the EU

The dashboard complements The State of Cardiovascular Health in the European Union report and provides a visual entry point to its data and key findings. It brings together internationally comparable indicators to offer a comprehensive overview of cardiovascular burden, outcomes and responses in Europe.

Reflecting the multifaceted nature of cardiovascular health, the dashboard covers both outcomes and key risk factors. It includes indicators on CVD mortality, total CVD costs, and 15 risk factors. It also features measures of thirty-day mortality and policy actions to prevent and manage CVD.

Interactive visualisations allow users to explore time trends, country comparisons, and data maps. Country filters, clickable icons, and tooltips guide navigation and provide additional details on indicator definitions and data calculations.

The dashboard draws on multiple international data sources, including OECD Health Statistics, Eurostat, the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), and the 2025 OECD Cardiovascular Policy and Data Survey.

It covers all EU Member States, Iceland, and Norway. Unless otherwise stated, figures refer to the most recent year available.

The methodology for calculating EU averages depends on the underlying data source:

·       For indicators sourced from Eurostat, the EU average is weighted.

·       For indicators from other sources (e.g. OECD, WHO), the EU average is unweighted.

·       The EU+2 average (EU plus Norway and Iceland) is typically unweighted. When the primary EU average is weighted (Eurostat data), the EU+2 average is calculated as the unweighted mean of the weighted EU value, Norway’s value, and Iceland’s value.
