Gironde Prefect Sophie Brocas on wildfire response at the launch of the OECD Platform for Regional Disaster Resilience in Valencia | 5-6 October 2026
The OECD Platform for Regional Disaster Resilience brings together policymakers and experts to build disaster resilience in regions, cities and communities. The Platform provides access to good practices from across the OECD on how to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters. It also offers peer support when a disaster strikes.
Disasters are becoming more frequent, and local geography, infrastructure and economic and social conditions shape the damage from a hazard and how quickly a community recovers. The effects of a disaster vary widely from one place to the next, and they can last for years.
That is why resilience must be built locally, around the vulnerabilities, resources and capacities of communities, cities and regions.
The Platform supports national and subnational governments to apply a place-based approach to disaster risk management and the disaster risk management cycle: prevention, preparedness, response and recovery. The Platform will work through two workstreams, which will develop and expand over time.
