The EU-OECD Project on Promoting Economic Resilience in Yemen has, since its inception in 2020, worked closely with Yemeni institutions and international partners to support economic governance, strengthen institutional capacities, and promote policies that contribute to economic resilience and recovery. Through two successive phases, the project has delivered support across a range of policy areas including statistics, financial-sector development, trade and export promotion, taxation, women's economic empowerment, donor coordination, and public-private dialogue.
Through its first phase (2020-2024), which involved a variety of direct consultations with key Yemeni stakeholders, the project contributed to strengthening institutional capacities and improving the evidence base available for policymaking. Key achievements included support to financial inclusion data collection and analysis, the establishment of mechanisms to strengthen statistical coordination and production, capacity-building activities across government institutions, support for donor coordination efforts, and technical engagement towards the development of the Government's Economic Recovery Plan.
Building on these foundations, Phase II (November 2024-Present) has focused on advancing policy reforms and supporting their implementation. Current activities include support to the Export Committee and the development and implementation of a national export policy, continued work on national accounts and economic statistics, engagement on financial-sector priorities, taxation and mobilisation of government revenues, women's economic empowerment, and donor coordination.
