The Cross-Country Project to Build Information Integrity will support governments across three interconnected components:
Building information integrity
Citizens are faced with increasingly complex digital and traditional media environments that can obscure and undermine public debates and deteriorate the quality of information spaces, posing a fundamental risk for democracies. Building on the OECD Recommendation on Information Integrity, the five-year Cross-Country Project to Build Information Integrity aims to help Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Lithuania, Poland, and Romania tackle information manipulation (including foreign interference), enhance institutional capacity, and strengthen cross-government and international co-ordination to reinforce information integrity.
Activities
Targeted policy recommendations will be provided through the development and application of a comparative monitoring methodology to inform Information Integrity Scans for each beneficiary country.
Scans will assess existing public policies, identify accomplishments and gaps, and guide reforms. They will be informed by consultations with government and non-government actors, reviewed and fact-checked by beneficiaries. They will include information and recommendations that may not necessarily be shared publicly, per the country’s discretion.
Training sessions and peer-learning activities will help civil servants across the whole of government and civil society understand how to counter threats to the information space and build information integrity.
The Reviews will highlight good practices, identify common challenges and priority reforms, and provide tailored recommendations. The first Regional Review will build on the Information Integrity Scans, and the second will be published at the end of the project to track progress and developments.
