State-owned enterprises (SOEs) have assumed an increasingly important role in the global economy over the past two decades, including in many strategic sectors.
A new OECD report, Ownership and Governance of State-Owned Enterprises 2026, examines how governments exercise ownership, oversee SOE performance and promote accountability, transparency and integrity in 58 economies worldwide.
The report provides comparative information on ownership arrangements, disclosure practices, board governance, sustainability-related expectations, and anti-corruption frameworks. The 2026 edition also includes findings from the new OECD Global State-Owned Enterprises Dataset, offering fresh insights into the global economic footprint of SOEs.
The OECD will release Ownership and Governance of State-Owned Enterprises 2026 during an event on 22 October 2026, starting at 9:00 CEST.
OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann will open the event, followed by a presentation of the report’s main findings by Maija Strandberg, Chair of the OECD Working Party on State Ownership and Privatisation Practices. A high-level panel discussion moderated by Carmine Di Noia, OECD Director for Financial and Enterprise Affairs will follow, with senior government representatives and corporate executives from the SOE sector.
