The OECD will release The Economic Case for Pandemic Preparedness and Response on Tuesday 15 September, at 13:00 CEST.
The report makes a strong economic case for investing in pandemic preparedness and response measures that enable swift and effective action in the early stages of an emerging epidemic. By simulating different outbreak scenarios, it quantifies the health and economic costs of delayed action and identifies key policy priorities to strengthen preparedness and response.
The report will be presented at a webinar on 15 September at 13:00 CEST, bringing together international experts to discuss the measures implemented since COVID-19, remaining vulnerabilities and priorities for strengthening preparedness and resilience to future pandemic threats. Coming shortly before the forthcoming United Nations High-Level Meeting on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response, the discussion will contribute to the debate on bolstering preparedness against future health threats.
Mark Pearson, OECD Acting Director for Employment, Labour and Social Affairs, and Antonio Parenti, Director for Public Health, Cancer and Health Security at the European Commission, will give introductory remarks followed by a presentation of main results and a panel discussion.
