Syöpäsairauksien terveys‑, talous‑ ja yhteiskuntavaikutusten torjuminen: Suomi

Syöpä on toiseksi yleisin kuolleisuuden syy Suomessa, ja joka viides ennenaikainen (ennen 75 vuoden ikää tapahtuva) kuolema (21 %) johtuu syövästä vuosina 2023-2050. Kaikkiaan syöpään kuolee vuosittain arviolta 3 000 ennenaikaista kuolemaa, ja väestön keskimääräinen elinajanodote on 1,6 vuotta alhaisempi kuin jos syöpää ei olisi.
1/5 ennenaikaisista kuolemista johtuu syövästä
1. Arviot lasketaan vertaamalla perusskenaariota hypoteettiseen skenaarioon, jossa syöpää ei esiinny, joten niissä otetaan huomioon muiden sairauksien kustannukset. Koska ihmiset, jotka eivät sairastu syöpään, elävät pidempään ja sairastavat muita sairauksia, tämä voi johtaa joidenkin maiden terveydenhuoltomenojen kokonaiskasvuun.
Ainakin kolme tekijää lisää syöpäsairauksien terveydenhuoltomenoja tulevaisuudessa. Ensinnäkin syöpäriski kasvaa iän myötä. Kun Suomen väestö ikääntyy, syövän aiheuttamat terveydenhuoltomenot asukasta kohden kasvavat 35 prosenttia vuosina 2023-2050, jos muut tekijät pysyvät ennallaan.
Toiseksi pyrkimykset vähentää syöpäsairauksien tulosten vaihtelua eri maissa voivat tarkoittaa sitä, että ihmiset elävät pidempään, tarvitsevat hoitoa pidempään ja voivat sairastua syöpään uudelleen. Tämä lisäisi syöpäkustannuksia vielä 6 prosenttia samalla ajanjaksolla. Kolmanneksi uusista lääkkeistä ja teknologioista johtuvat korkeammat hoitokustannukset voivat lisätä kokonaiskustannuksia entisestään.

Tärkeimpiä syöpäriskitekijöitä koskevien kansainvälisten poliittisten tavoitteiden saavuttaminen estäisi noin 5 prosenttia kaikista syöpätapauksista, ehkäisisi 9 prosenttia syöpäkuolemista ja vähentäisi syövän aiheuttamaa taakkaa terveysmenoista 5 prosenttia Suomessa.
Ihmisen papilloomaviruksen (HPV) optimaalinen rokottaminen Suomessa, jossa korkea rokotuskattavuus antaa riittävän laumaimmuniteetin kaikkien kohteena olevien HPV-tyyppien aiheuttamien tartuntojen eliminoimiseksi, voisi estää 88 prosenttia kohdunkaulan syövän aiheuttamista ennenaikaisista kuolemantapauksista ja vähentää syöpään liittyviä terveydenhuoltomenoja 15 miljoonalla eurolla vuodessa.
