Through Peer Reviews on Development Finance Statistics, members of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) and the OECD jointly assess how countries collect, report and disseminate data on their development co-operation. These reviews help countries respond to the increasing demand for comprehensive, reliable and accessible statistics on development finance, in a context of frequent changes to reporting requirements, staff-turnover and often complex, decentralised reporting systems.
Finland has been displaying a determination to protect the integrity of ODA and the associated budget, and formulate a long-term strategy to ensure the continuity of its development co-operation priorities beyond election cycles. The very limited resources assigned to statistical work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs however represent a challenge. The review recommends to further automate existing systems in order to leave more time for the Statistics team to tackle substantive issues.
