Through Peer Reviews on Development Finance Statistics, members of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) and the OECD jointly assess how countries collect, report and disseminate data on their development co-operation. These reviews help countries respond to the increasing demand for comprehensive, reliable and accessible statistics on development finance, in a context of frequent changes to reporting requirements, staff-turnover and often complex, decentralised reporting systems. Global Affairs Canada (GAC) has developed impressive capacities to track international assistance in support of gender equality and is encouraged to share examples with the Network on Gender Equality (Gendernet) of the DAC. Canada is preparing to report on Total Official Support for Sustainable Development (TOSSD) and has already considered the practicalities. The country could envisage dedicating resources to creating a new, more efficient statistical reporting system; and encourage other departments to harmonize their reporting practices with GAC standards. In reporting official development assistance spent on in-donor refugee costs, Canada should maintain its efforts to report accurately only the temporary costs for refugees’ first 12 months in Canada. GAC should consider making all project data available on its website; publishing its data on a calendar year basis; and further improving the availability of information.
