The OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas (DDG) recognises the private sector as a critical force and change agent that can influence the well-being of societies, and as bearing a particular responsibility when operating in or sourcing from conflict-affected and high-risk areas (CAHRAs). By conducting due diligence and making informed purchasing decisions, the private sector can avoid contributing to serious human rights abuses, curtail revenue to armed groups and organised crime, and avoid links with financial crime. It can also help countries and communities benefit from their natural resources. The application of this Monitoring and Evaluation Framework will improve understanding of how due diligence is being implemented and if it is helping to achieve the aims of the DDG — and, if not, why. The aim is to generate actionable data that can help stakeholders scale up what’s working and address what isn’t.
