Cities are generating new ideas everyday – but it is not necessary to reinvent the wheel each time. Many initiatives originate in other cities and get adapted to new contexts. Yet, adopting ideas from other cities is not always straightforward. To support cities in adopting impactful ideas, the OECD, in collaboration with Bloomberg Philanthropies (BP), is developing an action-oriented Toolkit. The Toolkit will provide practical guidance to accelerate and improve the adoption of effective ideas in cities. Rather than prescribing a single way forward, the Toolkit brings together practical suggestions and examples that cities may draw on to accelerate or strengthen their own adoption efforts and presents a set of illustrative actions for each. These actions are grounded in evidence and case studies and are intended to spark reflection and offer options.
This webinar marks the final evidence-gathering event of the project. It pursues two main objectives. First, it aims to collect feedback from cities on the draft actions to refine them and ensure they are rooted in the practical realities of idea adoption. Second, it seeks to gather additional insights on specific dimensions of idea adoption. First, how can cities embed idea adoption into their everyday governance? Second, how do ideas evolve as they are being adapted and adopted? Third, how can cities mobilise resources and capacity for local implementation?
Each session will begin with a brief preview of the draft actions, followed by city representatives sharing their own experiences. The discussion will then open to all participants to exchange perspectives and lessons learned.
