25-11-2025 (12:00pm) - Update to API throttling limits
The API limit for data downloads has been raised from 20 to 60 per hour. Any requests exceeding this threshold will temporarily be blocked. This restriction also applies to CSV file downloads from the data-explorer.oecd.org interface.
———
28-10-2025 (17:30pm) - Introduction of API Query Restrictions for TiVA and CRS Dedicated Dissemination Spaces
To preserve fair access for all users and ensure that our data services remain openly available, query restrictions will be introduced for very large datasets (1B+ observations) to prevent actions such as sorting billions of data points multiple times a day. These restrictions will apply to datasets published in the TiVA dedicated dissemination space (sti-public) and the CRS dedicated dissemination space (dcd-public) starting Wednesday, October 29 at 09:30 CET. The main data dissemination space (public) will not be affected by these restrictions.
Note: All data are accessible through the same Data Explorer, but they can be served from multiple dissemination spaces. The space you are querying is visible in the API endpoint after sdmx.oecd.org. Example: https://sdmx.oecd.org/dcd-public/rest/data/…
Summary of changes for TiVA public and CRS data:
- Blocked API Parameters
API requests using lastNObservations or firstNObservations will be blocked. These parameters have been identified as enabling the sorting of very large datasets (over 1 billion observations), which severely strains the server and impacts users of the dedicated servers (i.e., users of the Data Explorer accessing TIVA and CRS data; other users are not impacted thanks to the .Stat architecture). - Disabled filtered CSV downloads for time series
For the same reason, the option Download → Filtered data in tabular text (CSV) will be disabled when time series value(s) is selected. Selecting this option triggers the sorting of very large datasets (1B+ observations), which negatively affects other users of the dedicated data spaces. Users can continue to explore time series data in the browser interface, but filtered time series data will no longer be downloadable as CSV files. - Filtered downloads for datasets without time series selection will continue to function normally. Unfiltered CSV downloads remain available, subject to the existing policy.
These measures are being introduced to protect the openness and availability of the service by preventing excessive and unfair use of very large datasets (1B+ observations). We encourage users to review and adjust any automated workflows or scripts accordingly.
We thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions or require further information.

03-04-2025 (9:00am) - RESOLVED: Discrepancy in number of data observations when omitting the Version parameter from the API call
The issue affecting DF_CLI, DF_QNA_EXPENDITURE_GROWTH_OECD, and DF_INDICATOR_P7_P2_B reported on March 20th 2025, has been resolved. The Version parameter can now be omitted from API calls without affecting the number of observations retrieved.
———
31-03-2025 (10:00am) - Temporary issue with search in OECD Data Explorer
We are currently experiencing an issue with the search function in OECD Data Explorer. Due to a problem with stopwords of fewer than three characters (common words like "of" or "and"), some searches may return no results even when relevant data exists.
To work around this issue, we recommend searching without stopwords. For example, instead of searching for "Balance of Payments", try "Balance Payments".
We are working on resolving this issue and appreciate your patience.
———
20-03-2025 (10:30am) - Discrepancy in number of data observations when omitting the Version parameter from the API call
An issue was identified affecting the following datasets:
- Composite leading indicators (DF_CLI)
- Quarterly real GDP growth - OECD countries (DF_QNA_EXPENDITURE_GROWTH_OECD)
- SUT Share of imported products in intermediate consumption at basic prices (DF_INDICATOR_P7_P2_B)
When the version parameter is removed from the API call, the number of returned observations differs. However, the data retrieved remain correct—this issue only affects the number of observations returned, not their accuracy.
To ensure you retrieve the latest version of the data, please keep the version parameter in your API requests. The version parameter is by default included in the queries created via the Developer API query builder.
We are working to resolve this issue and will provide an update as soon as it is fixed.
We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
