20 - 22 March 2019
The fifth meeting of the OECD Global Forum on VAT will take place in Melbourne, Australia on 20-22 March 2019, welcoming representatives from over 100 countries and jurisdictions across the globe together with officials from international organisations.
Collaboration at a global level on VAT/GST brings substantial benefits to countries. Not only does it facilitate trade and ease tax administration by enhancing consistent application of VAT/GST, but it also allows them to work together to face common challenges and identify mutually beneficial solutions to improve tax collection.
This meeting of the OECD Global Forum on VAT will focus on a range of key policy and operational challenges faced by tax authorities in the era of digitalisation and globalisation through two main themes:
This will include discussions on the role of online marketplaces and other stakeholders in online trade, in helping to secure VAT/GST collection and the interaction with customs processes. The opportunities offered by technology, incl. blockchain, to facilitate tax compliance and administration will also be examined. Issues for discussion will include the VAT/GST treatment of the sharing economy.
Governments will share their analysis and experience in enhancing compliance and tackling fraud, including through VAT/GST design, innovative technologies and international administrative cooperation.
The Global Forum will also look at recent and ongoing VAT/GST reforms around the world and examine the outcomes of recent policy research and analysis, notably in light of the International VAT/GST Guidelines.
The OECD Global Forum on VAT is aimed at high level tax officials and representatives of international organisations. A delegation of academics and business representatives will also be invited to participate.
