ABOUT THE NETWORK

The purpose of the Network on Development Evaluation is to increase the effectiveness of international development programmes by supporting robust, informed and independent evaluation. It seeks to improve evaluation practice by elaborating technical guidance and sharing methods and experience among practitioners from national and multilateral development agencies, as well as partner countries.

The Network strives to facilitate joint evaluation and collaboration among donors and partners. It provides a forum where evaluation experts and managers from 30 bilateral and multilateral development agencies meet regularly to improve the practice and use of evaluation in development assistance. Its activities cover a number of areas in accordance with its mandate (see below).

DAC started work on development evaluation in 1982 with the creation of an Expert Group, which was later replaced by the DAC Working Party on Aid Evaluation. The DAC Network on Development Evaluation was created in March 2003, carrying forward this work.
