OECD launched a project on "Growth Follow-up: Micro-Policies for Growth and Productivity" (formerly Benchmarking) in February 2002. The OECD Growth Study identified four main micro-drivers of growth, i.e. seizing the benefits of ICT, fostering innovation and technology diffusion, enhancing human capital and fostering firm creation and entrepreneurship, and make related policy recommendations.

Peer reviews of venture capital performance and policies are being conducted in a number of countries. The following are now available: Canada, Korea, United Kingdom, Israel, SwedenDenmark  and the United States .

Country notes will explore certain policy areas in more depth. In the entrepreneurship domain, countries are being assessed on policies to enhance access to venture capital. With regard to innovation, countries are being assessed on fostering public-private research partnerships. Peer reviews are held in the CIBE to promote in-depth policy examinations and wide-ranging discussions.

The RoadmRoadmap ap outlines the workplan for the project. First, OECD statistics are used to compare country performance. A review of effective policies in top-performing countries will highlight benchmarks in areas such as facilitating firm entry and exit, fostering growth of new firms and increasing access to capital.
