Ambassador Christian Syse took up his duties as Permanent Representative of Norway to the OECD on 3 September 2026.
Ambassador Syse has been with the Foreign service for more than 35 years, having held positions at home in Oslo and abroad. He has served at the Office of the Prime Minister as well as headed the international department of the Norwegian National Assembly (Stortinget).
He was director general for European affairs and trade policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and subsequently deputy secretary general of the Foreign service, ambassador to Sweden 2017-21 and has for the past years been the MFA special representative for Ukraine, representing Norway in the international donor community.
Ambassador Syse was educated at the Norwegian Defence Language Institute in Russian and holds degrees from the Norwegian School of Economics and Yale University, USA.
