Arrivals and Departures
When making your travel plans please note that you can arrive in either Nanjing or Shanghai. In either case, please inform the OECD contact (CTP.GlobalRelations@oecd.org) of your travel plans as soon as you know them, so that airport transfer can be arranged.
Nanjing is about 2 hours away from the College by car and is the most convenient airport to and from the College. However, international flight connections may be limited.
Most international flights will bring you into Shanghai. Shanghai is about 3.5 - 7 hours away from the College by car depending on the traffic. Experts travelling to Shanghai should arrive on Saturday and arrange to stay at the Ramada Airport Hotel. They will be picked up from the hotel on Sunday morning when traffic conditions are good. If an expert cannot arrive on Saturday (or earlier) he/she should contact us. Hotel reservations should be guaranteed by a credit card. Late or early arrivals should be communicated to the hotel in advance.
Transport for Shanghai-bound experts after the event will normally be on Saturday morning. If the experts agree, transport can be arranged for the Friday, though, as indicated above, this is likely to result in a longer car journey. Experts who are flying out on Friday will be brought to the airport. Experts staying in Shanghai on Friday will be brought to their chosen hotel and will then make their own way to the airport.
Arrival in Nanjing: A staff member of the Tax Centre will be waiting to assist you with your trip. When you come out of the arrival gate, please look for the person holding a sign with your name on it. If you cannot find the staff from the Tax Centre, please contact the people referred to below.
Arrival in Shanghai: The Ramada Airport Hotel offeres a shuttle service from the airport to the hotel. Please consult the website of this hotel before your trip.
Also, for your reference, there is a fast train service from Shanghai railway station to Zhenjiang city which is only 40 minutes drive from Yangzhou. The train goes every hour or two hours during the daytime. The fast train (the super speed train like the French TGV) takes only 1 hour and 30 minutes from Shanghai central station.
Office facilities and support staff: During the seminar, the College staff members will be present in their office which is equipped with a photocopier, fax machine, telephone and internet. The event venue is equipped with multi-media computers, overhead projectors and a whiteboard.
Translation and Interpretation: The materials that will be used at the seminar are sent to the College in advance for translation into Chinese. A group of translators consisting of tax specialists are responsible for the translation of the materials. The interpretation service is simultaneous rather than consecutive.
Accommodation and Meals
For the duration of the seminar, lodging and meals will be arranged for all participants and experts by the College. Towels, tooth paste and tooth brushes are provided by the College.
Accommodation: Accommodation at the College is available free of charge, usually from the Saturday before a seminar until the Saturday after the seminar. If you need accommodation outside this period, please discuss with us. Each room is equipped with a computer and Internet access.
Meals: Meals are also free of charge. Both Chinese and Western meals can be provided by the College. If you have special dietary needs, please inform us.
Climate and Clothing: The weather in Yangzhou changes quite frequently. Please feel free to ask the College (see "Further information" below) so you can prepare your clothing accordingly. The College also provides laundry services.
Places of Interests in Yangzhou
Yangzhou City: The City itself is 5 minutes away from the College by taxi and is amazingly modern for an ancient city like Yangzhou. The taxi fare should cost about 7-8 Yuan. Yangzhou is famous for its three “knives”: the kitchen knife (being Yangzhou’s special cuisine), the barber's knife (the hairdressers), and the pedicure knife (a special service that is said can cure any foot problem).
Slender West Lake: The famous “Slender West Lake” is right next to the College and shares a doorway to the College. The usual fee at the main entrance, located about 20 minutes’ walk away from the College, is about 50 Yuan.
Currency Exchange Facilities
You can exchange main currencies such as US, Canadian and Australian dollars and Euros for Chinese Yuan (Chinese Currency) at banks located in downtown Yangzhou. Bank opening hours are from 8:00 to 17:00.
