Mali joins the Global Forum on Tax Transparency

13/02/2020 - Mali joins the international fight against tax evasion by becoming the 161st member of the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes.

Mali, like all other Global Forum members, will participate on an equal footing, and is committed to combatting tax evasion through implementing the internationally agreed standards of transparency and exchange of information for tax purposes-both exchange of information on request and automatic exchange of information. Members of the Global Forum include all G20 countries, all OECD members, all international financial centres and a very large number of developing countries.

The Global Forum is the world’s leading multilateral body mandated to ensure that all jurisdictions adhere to the same high standard of international co-operation in tax matters. This is done through a robust monitoring and peer review process which Mali will also be subject to. The Global Forum also has an extensive technical assistance programme to provide support to its members to implement the standards and quickly use the tools available to tax administrations to fight cross-border tax evasion.

As a member of the Global Forum, Mali will also participate in the , a programme of work launched in 2014 by the Global Forum with its African members and partner organisations to support domestic revenue mobilisation and the fight against illicit financial flows in Africa through enhanced tax transparency and exchange of information.
