Exchange of information

Indonesia, Global Forum and OECD co-host first capacity-building event under the Asia Initiative

28/10/2022 - The Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) of Indonesia, the OECD’s Global Relations Programme, the Secretariat of the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes (Global Forum), in partnership with the Study Group on Asia-Pacific Tax Administration and Research (SGATAR), co-hosted the first event of the Asia Initiative, which was held virtually on 25-27 October 2022.

225 delegates from Asian members of the Global Forum attended the virtual workshop on the effective use of the Common Reporting Standard (CRS) and Exchange of Information on Request (EOIR). The participants and experts from the Global Forum Secretariat, DGT, the National Tax Agency of Japan, the Inland Board Revenue of Malaysia and the Inland Revenue of New Zealand discussed the relevance of CRS information for domestic tax investigation and the usefulness of EOIR as tools to mobilise domestic resources more effectively.

Launched in November 2021 as a platform to co-ordinate a capacity-building programme on tax transparency among partners, the Asia Initiative enables the development of a regional dynamic for improved collaboration among Asian countries. It currently counts 16 members that endorsed the objectives set out under the Bali Declaration, which is a call to enhance tax cooperation to sustain mobilisation of domestic resources.

The Global Forum is the leading multilateral body mandated to ensure that jurisdictions around the world adhere to and effectively implement both the exchange of information on request standard and the standard of automatic exchange of information. These objectives are achieved through a robust monitoring and peer review process. The Global Forum also runs an extensive capacity-building programme to support its members in implementing the standards and help tax authorities make the best use of cross-border information sharing channels.
