Global Forum Secretariat helps Mauritania prepare for second round peer review on the exchange of information on request

From 9 to 12 May 2022, the Global Forum Secretariat carried out a mock on-site visit to discuss the progress achieved and remaining challenges and to prepare stakeholders for the review process. Various meetings with representatives from the government and the private sector were organised, including with the Ministry of Finance, the Tax Administration, the Ministry of Justice, the Central Bank of Mauritania, the Commercial Register, the Anti-Money-Laundering Unit, the Chamber of notaries, the Bar and the Accountants and Auditors associations. Training on the use and management of exchange of information was also provided to tax officials.

The upcoming peer review, scheduled to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2022, is based on strengthened terms of reference that include the availability of and access to beneficial ownership information. Mauritania was rated Largely Compliant against the EOIR standard in the first round review published in 2016.

The Global Forum is the leading multilateral body mandated to ensure that jurisdictions around the world adhere to and effectively implement both the exchange of information on request standard and the standard of automatic exchange of information. These objectives are achieved through a robust monitoring and peer review process. The Global Forum also runs an extensive capacity-building programme to support its members in implementing the standards and help tax authorities make the best use of cross-border information sharing channels.
