Exchange of information

Global Forum Secretariat, CREDAF and Office Togolais de Recettes jointly organise workshop on the establishment and operation of effective exchange of information units

08/06/2022 - The Global Forum Secretariat jointly organised a workshop on the establishment and operation of effective exchange of information (EOI) units from 23 to 25 May 2022, in collaboration with the Cercle de Réflexion et d’Échange des Dirigeants des Administrations fiscales (CREDAF) and the Office Togolais des Recettes (OTR). A hundred and seventy-seven participants from 12 African countries attended the event in Lomé, Togo.

Joint Global Forum, CREDAF and Office Togolais de Recettes workshop on the establishment and operation of effective exchange of information units 23-25 May 2022, Lomé, Togo

Participants discussed strategies for building effective EOI infrastructures, key steps in establishing and managing an EOI function, as well as insights from Global Forum peer reviews. Experts from Belgium, Cameroon, France and Tunisia shared their knowledge and practical experience in establishing and managing their respective EOI functions.

The EOI unit is critical for the exchange of information between tax administrations. It manages the daily activity of EOI and supports other functions of the tax administration in obtaining and using relevant information from foreign countries, as well as in responding to requests for information from partner jurisdictions. A functioning EOI unit is therefore key to strengthening tax administrations’ capacity to address cross-border tax evasion by corporate and individual taxpayers.

The workshop is part of the Global Forum’s efforts in developing capacity-building programmes to unlock the potential of EOI to combat cross-border tax evasion and other illicit financial flows, and ultimately enhance domestic resource mobilisation.
