The Global Forum and Italy support Albania in the implementation of automatic exchange of tax information

26/02/2020 – The Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes and the Italian Revenue Agency (Agenzia delle Entrate) carried out an onsite visit in Tirana on 17-18 February 2020 to assist Albania with the implementation of the international standard of automatic exchange of financial account information (AEOI).

During their visit, Ms. Chiara Putzolu, Ms. Agata Sardo and Ms. Santa Palumbo of the Italian Revenue Agency and Mr. Hakim Hamadi of the Global Forum Secretariat assisted Albania with the finalisation of its legal and regulatory framework. Other building blocks of the implementation of the AEOI standard were also discussed, in particular the confidentiality and data safeguards framework. In addition, a meeting with representatives of financial institutions was organised during the visit.

The technical assistance was provided under the AEOI pilot project whereby Italy and the Global Forum Secretariat help Albania implement the AEOI standard. Although Albania committed to start its first automatic exchanges by 2021, it has taken the necessary steps to start automatic exchanges in 2020.
