IEA/ISI Strategic Forum 2014 and HLEG Workshop on Intra-generational and Inter-generational Sustainability

The International Economic Association (IEA) and the International Statistical Institute (ISI) have decided to jointly promote the development of new measurement and analytical frameworks and tools for “equitable and sustainable well-being”. In 2013, the first IEA-ISI Strategic Forum was organised in Rome thanks to the sponsorship of SAS, with the support of the Einaudi Institute for Economics and Finance (EIEF) and the Italian national statistical office (ISTAT) under the theme “The Measurement of the Cost of Long and Deep Recessions: Beyond GDP”.

The 2014 IEA-ISI Strategic Forum, held on 22-23 September 2014 in Rome, Italy, addressed “Intra-generational and Inter-generational Sustainability”. The Forum was organised jointly with the High-Level Expert Group on the Measurement of Economic Performance and Social Progress (HLEG), hosted by the OECD, that was established in 2013 to follow-up on the recommendations of the Commission on the Measurement of Economic Performance and Social Progress (also known as the Stiglitz-Sen-Fitoussi Commission), and to provide impetus and guidance to the various initiatives currently ongoing on measuring people’s well-being and societies’ progress.
