Workshop "Foundations as catalysts of change: What role in supporting youth and education?" - 5 March 2015

The recently published netFWD study Philanthropy and Youth Empowerment highlighted that foundations support innovative approaches to youth empowerment while also partnering with other development actors to leverage their potential.

This workshop will explore the scope of such innovations in support of the youth and education agendas and how these efforts fit within the broader Post-2015 agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Session 1 will go over examples of foundations as promoters of innovation, discussing new approaches and tools, ranging from support to the teaching of soft skills to making financial services accessible to disadvantaged youth, together with the use of new technologies in support of monitoring and evaluation systems. These examples will raise the issue of the challenge of scaling up promising efforts while supporting the global education agenda more holistically.

Session 2 will thus discuss the extent to which foundations’ initiatives in the areas of youth and education have come in support of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and how they can still contribute to the new global education agenda set out in the Post-2015 framework, as well as how this contribution can be monitored.
