The informal meeting of OECD Education Ministers "Fostering Skills and Employability Through Education" was held in Istanbul, Turkey on 2-3 October 2013 at “Le Méridien İstanbul Etiler”.

The meeting started with a lunch on 2 October and ended with a lunch on 3 October. The meeting was opened by the Chair, Mr. Nabi Avcı, Minister of National Education of Turkey and the OECD Secretary General Mr Angel Gurría on Wednesday 2 October 2013.

The opening plenary consited of a working lunch with representatives from business, trade unions and leading international analysts on the main trends shaping skills development and deployment. The afternoon was mainly devoted to discussion of the key findings of the OECD Survey of Adult Skills in a session reserved for participating Ministers only, followed by small group discussions. The first day ended with a social event open to all participants. The next morning on Thursday 3 October 2013, Ministers took part in a round of break-out sessions to explore the role of education systems in building effective national, regional and local skills strategies, followed by a closing plenary session.
