As part of a broader OECD effort to help countries tackle the COVID-19 crisis the Regulatory Policy Division is undertaking a series of activities to take stock of evidence and country practices and help policy makers and regulators inform their decision making:
Regulatory decisions are vital at nearly every stage of resolving the health crisis and its social and economic effects. The current situation makes the need for trusted, evidence-based, internationally co-ordinated and well-enforced regulation particularly acute. It underlines the importance of regulation as one of the most relevant levers of government action, along with taxing, spending and communicating and the relevance of the tools and procedures recommended in the 2012 OECD Recommendation on Regulatory Policy and Governance to uphold its quality even in times of crisis.
