MENA-OECD Business Advisory Board (BAB)
MENA-OECD Business Advisory Board
Annual meeting 2020
9-10 December 2020 | Online
Following on from the COVID-19 pandemic webinar held in May 2020, members of the MENA-OECD Business Advisory Board met to discussthe impact of and recovery from the COVD-19 pandemic for the business community so far in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and set future priorities to support economic recovery.
Enhancing the competitiveness of the Middle East and North Africa region must be accompanied by the promotion of inclusive growth and decent work opportunities for all. This requires strong partnerships between governments, the business community and labour organisations. Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) is increasingly recognised as a tool to create effective and transparent reform coalitions to inform the design and implementation of policies, and build trust between economic actors.
In the MENA region, such participatory mechanisms need to be strengthened. Moreover, the private sector in some MENA countries remains fragmented and dispersed. The MENA-OECD Business Advisory Board (BAB) aims to provide a structured, sustainable and well-informed platform for private sector mobilisation. Building such institutional frameworks in which the private sector can participate and effectively contribute to the decision-making process is essential for producing better policy outcomes.
About the MENA-OECD Business Advisory Board (BAB)
The BAB is co-chaired by the Spanish Confederation of Employers’ Organisation (CEOE) and the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA). The aim of this initiative is to create a reform coalition between governments and the business community to inform regional policy dialogue and promote new forms of Public-Private Dialogue in the region.
The BAB will:
- Organise an annual regional meeting to discuss salient topics regarding the role of the private sector in the promotion of better policies in MENA countries.
- Strengthen business associations in the region by fostering exchanges with peers from OECD and other countries, developing analytical work that identifies lessons learned and organising capacity-building activities.
