2-3 October 2017 OECD, Paris
This high-level meeting brought together Ministers, senior policy makers and industry leaders to discuss ways to deliver more sustainable and inclusive tourism growth.
The event was chaired by Elena Kountoura, the Minister of Tourism of Greece. Keynote speeches were delivered by Angel Gurría, OECD Secretary-General, Álvaro Nadal Belda, Spanish Minister of Energy, Tourism and Digital Agenda and Maryann Ferenc, Member of U.S. Secretary of Commerce's Travel and Tourism Advisory Board.
Programme
The meeting consisted of three main sessions:
: Exploring the need for effective institutions and governance mechanism to foster a forward-looking, whole-of-government approach to achieve long term strategic objectives for tourism.
: Addressing how megatrends will fundamentally change the environment for tourism in the years to come.
The event supported the future policy agenda of OECD member and partner countries. It aimed to draw attention to the major advances made in the implementation of effective tourism policies and programmes, and to facilitate open discussions about long term objectives for tourism development, and how an effective, forward-looking, whole-of-government approach can help achieve these objectives.
This event marked the occasion of the 100th meeting of the OECD Tourism Committee. Created in 1948, the Committee acts as the OECD forum for exchange, and for monitoring policies and structural changes affecting the development of domestic and international tourism. It actively promotes the sustainable economic growth of tourism.
