OECD Roundtable on Better Governance for Gender Equality

17-18 May 2017 | Fosshotel, Reykjavík, Iceland

For the first time, gender institutional experts from OECD countries were brought together to promote an enhanced understanding of the importance of gender-sensitive policy-making across different areas of government. The event was held back to back with the Experts Meeting on Gender Budgeting so that gender equality and gender budgeting experts had the opportunity to meet and discuss matters of joint interest.

The Roundtable built on the support and commitment of OECD countries to the 2015 OECD Recommendation of the Council on Gender Equality in Public Life and further explored the important role of gender equality in achieving inclusive growth and sustainable development. In 2016 the OECD Public Governance Committee endorsed a road map for the implementation of the Recommendation, a key element of which will be the Gender in Governance Toolkit to be released in late 2017.

The event featured a number of interactive discussions, led by government officials and non-government experts, centred on how countries can better support gender-sensitive policy-making. In particular, the discussions examined tools and mechanisms that promote gender sensitive policy-making and can overcome the existing gaps and challenges faced by policy-makers. By facilitating this discussion, the OECD aims to build the capacity of OECD countries to further link gender considerations with policy-making through the exchange of good practices and case-studies.
