Public Governance Directorate - Internship working on mainstreaming and implementing gender equality

 

OECD’s Public Governance Directorate is recruiting interns for 6 months from September 2018 to February 2019 for work on mainstreaming and implementing gender equality.

We are looking for bright, talented and dynamic interns to assist in the Organisation’s work on gender equality in public institutions which focuses on supporting member and partner countries in mainstreaming gender equality in public administrations, parliaments, executives and courts, as well as in the development of policies, systems and frameworks.

 

Over the course of the internship in our dynamic and international work environment, the intern will gain insight into:

  • The working methods and the role of the OECD as an international actor; 
  • The specific challenges that OECD member and partner countries face as well as the good practices in the area of design and implementation of gender equality initiatives; 
  • The design of international policy processes supporting the advancement of the gender equality agenda.



The intern will assist with the analytical work carried out by the team. He/She will especially focus on:

  • Supporting the preparation of baseline assessment of OECD countries in the implementation of 2015 OECD Recommendation on Gender Equality in Public Life.
  • Advancing research and collection of country practices on gender mainstreaming in a variety of public governance areas, including but not limited to, regulatory impact assessments, public procurement, public sector integrity systems, open government, and public sector innovation.
  • Supporting the preparation of briefing notes, speeches and missions for high-level OECD officials.
  • Providing support to the organisation of high-level OECD meetings.

 

Education and experience

  • A Bachelor degree (or equivalent) and currently enrolled or having completed a Master’s programme in international relations, political science, public management, gender studies, economics, or a related subject. 
  • International experience in analytical activities, through studies and/or internships, would be an advantage 
  • Knowledge of gender equality issues, both in OECD and non-member countries

 


Key Competencies

  • Organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks in accordance with tight deadlines 
  • Proficiency in the use of standard software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.) 
  • Research skills: Capacity to find and identify relevant papers on a specific issue. Ability to extract the main conclusions from a given strand of the literature 
  • Ability to work in a multicultural team and highly-demanding environment and to adapt smoothly to changing working methods and technologies

 


Communication and language skills

  • Good drafting skills; ability to organise and summarise complex material 
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work harmoniously as part of a multicultural team 
  • This position requires fluency in one of the two OECD official languages (English and French) and knowledge of the other, with a commitment to reach a good working level
