Closing the Gender Gap: have we reached the tipping point?

8 March 2018 OECD Conference Centre, Paris

 Watch the launch

To support the implementation of initiatives aimed to closing the gender gap, this session featured the launch of the OECD Toolkit for Mainstreaming & Implementing Gender Equality. The Toolkit provides a whole-of-state roadmap for countries to identify “what it takes” to make gender equality happen.

The Toolkit covers a wide range of topics, from gender mainstreaming to gender budgeting; from institutional roles and accountability, to measures ensuring women’s access to leadership and gender-sensitive public employment policies including pay equity. The Toolkit can be viewed here.

After the launch, a discussion followed on the most urgent issues to be addressed in closing the gender gap, and what needs to be done in private and public sectors to improve the situation. High-level government officials, parliamentarians and other experts joined OECD Chief of Staff and Sherpa, Gabriela Ramos, to share their experiences and views on practical solutions, what really works across the OECD, and what are the design pitfalls to avoid.

Taking place on International Women's Day, the Toolkit will be launched as part of a series of events throughout March. The full Programme is available online.
