The OECD webinars on Testing and Assessment Methodologies focus on selected ongoing projects that will result in the short to medium term in new methodologies to test and assess chemicals. These free webinars are open to potential end users among regulators and contract research organisations who want to get familiar with new standards and approaches. Video recordings of our webinars are made available online afterwards.
register for our upcoming webinar: gaining acceptance in next generation pbk modelling approaches for regulatory approaches
WHEN: 10 May 2021 @ 13:20 - 15:30 (CEST) / 07:20 - 09:30 (EDT)
The OECD Hazard Assessment Programme is increasingly exploring the use of alternative (non-animal) methods to aid the chemical risk assessment process. Recently, the OECD published a Guidance Document on the Characterisation, Validation and Reporting of Physiologically Based Kinetic (PBK) Models for Regulatory Purposes. This guidance aims to increase the confidence in the use of PBK models parameterised with data derived from in vitro and in silico methods, and help address “unfamiliar” uncertainties associated with these methods.
Join us to hear about the assessment framework for PBK models that was developed to evaluate the attributes and uncertainties of these models, including a dedicated discussion on sensitivity analysis. This webinar will present the scientific workflow for characterising and validating PBK models together with a template for documenting PBK models in a systematic manner and a checklist to support model evaluation.
If you are from the community of PBK model developers, or the proponent of a model in a regulatory submission, or a regulator who needs to assess the applicability of the models in chemical evaluations, this webinar is for you!

On Thursday 25 February 2021, Anne Gourmelon (Environment Directorate, OECD), Kathrin Schwirn (German Environment Agency, Umweltbundesamt, UBA); Frank von der Kammer (University of Vienna) Research and Development Center) and Doris Völker (German Environment Agency, Umweltbundesamt, UBA) presented the scope, content, and use of the Test Guideline No. 318: Dispersion Stability of Nanomaterials in Simulated Environmental Media and its accompanying Guidance Document. Further discussions focused on the scope of the upcoming Test Guideline.
On Tuesday 26 January 2021, Anne Gourmelon (Environment Directorate, OECD), Elijah J. Petersen (National Institute of Standards and Technology); Alan Kennedy (Engineering Research and Development Center) and Gregory Goss (University of Alberta) presented the scope and use of the guidance document No. 317 on aquatic and sediment ecotoxicity testing of nanomaterials. The guidance addresses practical aspects of carrying out valid tests on nanomaterials, and modifications or additions to OECD Test Guidelines procedures intended to improve the accuracy of test results.
