Launch of OECD-Indonesia Joint Work Programme

Remarks by Angel Gurría,

OECD, Paris

Minister Brodjonegoro, Dear Bambang, ladies and gentlemen,

The OECD’s collaboration with Indonesia goes from strength to strength. Following hot on the heels of my March visit to Jakarta – when the Minister and I opened our first office in a Key Partner country – I am delighted to launch today the OECD-Indonesia Priority Areas for Co-operation.

Indonesia is also the first of our Key Partners to sign such a comprehensive joint work programme, which lays out a detailed programme of activities for the upcoming years. This is a momentous step in our collaboration and we expect it to serve as a model for co-operation with other Key Partners.  Just a few moments ago, we signed a Framework Agreement with Brazil, another of our Key Partners, that should also lead to a Joint Work Programme. And we are expecting to launch another Joint Work Programme with China when Premier Li Keqiang visits the OECD on the 1st of July.

To get to this stage, we have spent the past 6 months consulting with OECD members and a wide array of Indonesian Ministries to jointly define a 12-point list of priority areas for the 2015-2016 period. These priorities – covering fiscal reform, a second , a national skills strategy, tackling corruption, improving corporate governance, supporting SMEs and other elements – will support the government’s implementation of its Medium-Term Development Plan 2015-19.

As well as supporting the Indonesian government, our joint work will help the OECD better incorporate Indonesian practices and perspectives, so that we can use them to enrich the global policy debate, including through our contributions to the G20.

I am very proud of what we have accomplished together so far, and I look forward to implementing this ambitious programme as we work towards better policies for better lives across the world, throughout Southeast Asia and Indonesia.

Thank you!
