Corruption and abuse of public office are a blight on democracies and a drain on public finances. With trust in government flagging in many countries and voter disillusionment on the rise, raising the standards of integrity is more important than ever.
Government officials, the private sector, civil society organisations and academia came together in Athens to discuss anti-corruption issues such as:
- What is the cost of corruption to society today?
- The use of political donations to buy influence,
- The importance of accountability in the public sector,
- The key role integrity plays,
- The new roles both media and citizens play in the fight against corruption.

This 2 day Forum was co-organised by the General Secretariat for Combating Corruption in the framework of the Technical Support on Anti-Corruption in Greece, implemented with the support of the European Commission.
It provided an opportunity for dialogue and exchange of views between stakeholders on the issues of integrity and transparency in the Public Sector. The main goal was to raise public awareness and engage all social actors in the fight against corruption.
The Forum will included presentation of the 2016 Annual Report from the General Secretariat against Corruption and the launch of the three winning web apps from the first Greece Public Integrity Hackathon.
