The impact of COVID-19 on business in emerging markets
The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has set off a global social and economic crisis, with unprecedented effects in emerging and developing economies where forecasts are troubling and recessions potentially looming. The pandemic will also have a major negative effect on businesses, given the large breakdown in demand and significant changes in global supply chains. Beyond the immediate impact which we see unfolding, much remains uncertain. Policy responses will certainly dictate both the degree of impact and the shape of the ‘new normal’ to come.
Building on the key findings of the new EMnet report ‘Business Insights on Emerging Markets 2020’ and on the latest analysis from the OECD Development Centre on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in Africa, Asia and Latin America, this session will discuss what can be done to enhance resilience and encourage a sustainable recovery in emerging markets.
