I want to focus on the urgent and systemic issue of climate change, which is more than just an environmental problem. Just two days ago, the 2017 Lancet Countdown report was released, showing that climate change is already a critical public health issue, one disproportionately affecting the most vulnerable as well as those least responsible for anthropogenic warming.

We advise governments on how to be greener, so the least we can do is an equivalent effort to green the OECD and its management practices.

We are all brought together by the collective global project to transform our economies, still hard-wired around fossil fuels, into green, low-emissions and climate-resilient economies. This is a huge challenge. It requires massive leadership, and well-aligned policies across government, as well as the scaling up of green finance. Given the scale of this investment, the role of finance is critical.
