Participation of CFE's Director at Women's Socio-Economic Empowerment conference in Amman


On 30-31 March, Lamia Kamal-Chaoui, Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs, Local Development and Tourism participated in a conference on “Women’s Socio-Economic Empowerment: Breaking through the Barriers’” in Amman, Jordan jointly organised by IPEMED, UN Women Jordan, the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and CAFRAG (Chamber of Commerce France Jordan).  

The conference gathered women leaders from France, Jordan and many other countries in the MENA region to share experiences, success stories and formulate recommendations on methods to build capacity, inspire and empower women. Speakers included, among others, Minister Laurence Rossignol, French Minister for Families, Children and Women Rights; Mrs. Elisabeth Guigou, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee at the National Assembly of France; Ms. Danielle Bousquet, President of the High Council For Equality between Women and Men; Ms. Mahasen Al-Emam , President Arab Women Media Center; as well as Princess Wijdan Al Hashemi and Princess Sumaya  Al Hassan.

Ms. Kamal-Chaoui delivered a keynote speech on the subject of “Equality, Empowerment and Entrepreneurship: Making it work for women”.  In her remarks, she highlighted the work that the OECD is doing on gender equality, including specific work in the MENA region, with a specific focus on the issue on how the OECD’s work on inclusive entrepreneurship could be applied to the challenges women entrepreneurs face in Jordan and the region more generally.
