The inaugural OECD Green Investment Financing Forum (GIFF) aimed to promote dialogue and enhance understanding between a wide range of countries and institutions interested in mobilising private investment financing for low carbon and climate-resilient (LCR) infrastructure. It was held on 12-13 June 2014, in Paris, France.
The discussions of the GIFF covered Long-term investors and low-carbon, climate-resilient infrastructure: Lessons from established and emerging green investment bank models.
Drawing on priorities laid out in the OECD report Institutional Investors and Green Infrastructure Investments: Selected Case Studies, the GIFF took stock of green investment banks (GIBs), and examined what they do, the reasons for their establishment, what they have in common, and how they vary. The forum also examined how GIBs are working to mobilise capital specifically from institutional investors.
Forum sessions included:
- The rationale for green investment banks
- The business models of green investment banks
- Setting up and operating a green investment bank
- Activities of green investment banks and perspectives from other institutions
- Mobilising capital from institutional investors: opportunities and challenges for green investment banks
- GIBs and domestic policy frameworks for green investment: future prospects
