This workshop, jointly convened by the Environment and the Development Co-operation Directorates, held on 18 February 2015, at the OECD Conference Centre in Paris, brought together over 85 representatives from the biodiversity and development co-operation communities to share experience and insights on the key opportunities and challenges to mainstreaming biodiversity into development policies and planning and into development co-operation.

Session 1: Mainstreaming biodiversity into development strategies, policies, plans and budgets
This session focused on experiences from countries in mainstreaming biodiversity into development objectives at national level, including how to manage trade-offs. It also explored good practices on how development co-operation agencies have been supporting developing countries in this process and mainstreaming biodiversity into their own activities.

This session examined approaches to mainstreaming biodiversity into development at the sector and local levels, including examples of partnerships. Approaches to identify, assess and manage synergies and trade-offs when mainstreaming biodiversity into key development areas were also discussed.

Session 3: Managing for results - examining the effectiveness of biodiversity and development mainstreaming initiatives in partner developing countries
This session examined how developing countries identify priorities and funding gaps for biodiversity, ecosystem services and development. It also considered how development co-operation agencies work with partner countries to agree on measurable objectives and then work together to ensure that their activities achieve these results. This session provided examples of managing for results through ex-ante and ex-post assessments, real-time evaluations, and other means to build evidence of impacts.
