A Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (PRTR) is a publicly accessible database or inventory of chemicals or pollutants released to air, water and soil and transferred off-site for treatment. It brings together information about which chemicals are being released, where, how much and by whom.
Countries are taking action against toxic chemicals emitted into air, water and land by industry. How can countries track progress made towards this target? The new OECD report Using PRTR information to evaluate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goal 12 looks at Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers data as a means to track toxic releases to monitor chemical pollution to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal Target 12.4. This tracking system not only enhances transparency and accountability of industry but also measures progress towards SDG target 12.4. The report shows that pollutants have decreased by 47% from 2008 to 2017. This decreasing trend is also found even if the release values are normalised by manufacturing GDP of the countries or if they are converted to the Toxicity Impact Scores. |

There is another way to access the page, that is to go within the T4 structure at the Environment >> Chemical Safety and Biosafety level (see screenshot No. 1 below).
Given that this page is hosted under the Global Inventory of Pollutant Releases topic (ex PRTR topic as reflected in the URL: https://www.oecd.org/env/ehs/pollutant-release-transfer-register/publications-series-on-pollutant-release-and-transfer-registers.htm), go in the topic folder and then do a type in the id No. of the page (82790) and change the fields to “id” and “contains”. Once you click on “filter” the page should be displayed as depicted in screenshot No.2.
