10-11 September 2008

OECD Conference Centre, Room CC13, Paris

The OECD/IMHE Secretariat organised a launch workshop for participating regions, which was held at the OECD Headquarters in Paris on Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 September 2008.

The main purpose of the workshop was to discuss the rationale and goals of the OECD Reviews of Higher Education in Regional Development and to focus on the self-evaluation process. There was also the opportunity to hear some of the leading experts in the field.

The workshop included:

  • lessons learnt from the reviews in 2005-2007;
  • advice and guidance in the self-evaluation process from the OECD Secretariat and Regional Co-ordinators for the reviews in 2005-2007;
  • expert presentations on how to construct regional advantage in different types of regions and how to create global gateways to local companies with the help of higher education institutions;
  • presentations highlighting the links to related OECD work on university rankings and education buildings, offering new strands for evaluation;
  • opportunities for networking and benchmarking with other participating regions and city regions.

Further information can be found via the the draft agenda. This site also contains detailed information about Speakers, as well as abstracts of the presentations.
